What is a high fade?
The fade line sits above the temple, often level with the top of the head’s curve, so most of the side is graduated and the top reads as a distinct shape. The effect is architectural: a clear block of hair above, clean skin or near-skin below.
Who should think twice about a high fade?
Anyone with a thin crown or a receding hairline, because a high fade concentrates all the visible hair in exactly the area where it is thinnest. It also demands upkeep — the bare region is large, so the grow-out is obvious within two weeks. An honest barber will tell you this before starting rather than after.
What goes on top of a high fade?
Usually something with height or texture: a pompadour, a quiff, a sponge-twisted curl, or a flat top. The stronger the contrast at the sides, the more the top has to be a deliberate shape rather than just “longer hair”.
