What is a side part?
Medium length on top combed to one side along a defined parting, with the sides tapered or faded. The part can be your natural one, cut to fall there, or a hard part shaved in with a razor for a sharper line.
Should I get a hard part?
A hard part — a thin shaved line — makes the parting unmistakable and holds the style in place. It also needs re-cutting every two weeks to stay clean. Worth it if you like the look; skip it if you do not want that cycle.
What holds a side part in place?
A light cream or matte paste on damp hair, combed and dried in the direction of the part. Heavy product makes it look painted on.
